- Strong background in nuclear or fusion physics and fusion engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
-Hands-on experience with fusion reactor design, including simulations, assembly and manufacture of components, and related items.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Excellent ability for coding in various software languages.
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Scientist with a background in energy conversion (e.g., nuclear, fusion) and reactor design to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in an advanced scientific or engineering degree with 5-7 years of experience in the field of nuclear fusion or equivalent. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical, optical, electrical, chemical, and materials engineering principles as they apply to nuclear fusion research, including reactors, lasers, optics, targets, and injectors. The successful candidate will work on-site, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to advance our fusion research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and Development: Lead and contribute to research efforts aimed at advancing nuclear fusion technologies. Design, execute, and analyze experiments to
improve fusion reactor performance and efficiency, including focus on targets and
injectors.
Engineering: Utilize expertise in mechanical engineering principles to design and
optimize fusion reactor components. Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure the integrity and functionality of mechanical systems. Apply electrical engineering knowledge to develop and enhance control systems, power distribution systems, and diagnostic instrumentation for fusion experiments.
Chemicals and Materials: Assess and develop materials suitable for fusion reactor components, considering factors such as radiation resistance, thermal conductivity, and structural integrity. Conduct chemical analyses and material characterization studies as necessary. Assess and develop target materials for fusion reactor.
On-site Work: Work hands-on at our research facility, overseeing experimental setups, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring the safe operation of fusion experiments.
Travel: Able to travel within the U.S., Japan, and Europe.
Communication: Effectively communicate research findings, project updates, and technical insights to colleagues and stakeholders. Produce high-quality written reports and presentations for both internal and external audiences.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including physicists, engineers, technicians, and project managers to achieve research objectives and milestones. Collaborate and work with vendors, universities, and government laboratories.
